Can We Have Sex?

There is a disturbing trend and that is the fact that I am receiving quite a few inquiries on whether two individuals can have sex. I understand that you are attracted to each other, but there is a whole lot of considerations to make including whether it is statutory rape or not.

  Statutory Rape

In most jurisdictions this in now known as unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.  To determine whether it is statutory rape simply google ages involved and “age of consent”.  Also, there exists a period of time where additional protections are in place usually allowing partners that are close enough in age to lawfully engage in sexual activity.

Child Pornography

Be warned: just because it is legal for your teenage lover and you to make love does not mean everything is going to be okay.  If you are an adult, and even if you are not, you cannot have, make, transmit, or procure sexually explicit photographs or videos of persons under the age of 18. It may be legal for you to have sex in private, but those sexy pictures could land you in jail or on a sex offender registry.  Think before you share.

Parents

Never forget that the adult parents of that minor child are in legal control.  If they do not like the adult lover, the parents can punish the child, ban him or her from their home and cause serious custody issues should the minor become pregnant.

Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor

The adult partner in such a relationship could get in trouble for contributing to the delinquency of of a minor even when she is of the age of consent.  Some good examples are sex in public places or where controlled substances are involved.

Children

Nothing is foolproof when you are having sex.  Contraception sometime fails and a pregnancy is the consequence.  Are you prepared for a child, to pay for a child, etc.

Bottom Line

True love really does wait.  Do not let the pressure put you in a situation that will change your life forever.  Enjoy your time as a young person.  Wait.  Wait. Wait.  True love will wait.
